Meet Judy Newman

As Chief Impact Officer, Judy leads Scholastic’s efforts to amplify its mission and expand its reach to ensure equal access to book choice and literacy for all children through partnerships with nonprofits and other organizations. She drives the United States of Readers, Scholastic’s national literacy program, to activate private philanthropy and alternative sources of funding to leverage Scholastic’s strengths and partner with teachers in under-resourced schools to reach students with the greatest need of literacy support.

Since joining the Company in 1993, Judy has worked to champion teachers and position Scholastic as a trusted literacy partner to meet their students’ evolving needs. She previously served as President of E-Commerce; President of Direct to Home; and President of Scholastic Book Clubs—the company's unique, classroom-to-home, teacher-led book distribution and literacy support channel.

Judy has extensive leadership experience in the nonprofit space: she is former Board Chair and current board member of Reach Out and Read and Chair of the Board of the M.R. Robinson Foundation.

Judy holds an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business and a Master’s in Education from Harvard University.

She is also the author of the Bobs and Tweets chapter book series under the pseudonym, Pepper Springfield, and each Halloween, she becomes the “Book Lady,” handing out thousands of books to trick-or-treaters at her home in Montclair, NJ.
